Hale Kilo I'a 5

Hale Kilo I'a

Hale Kilo I’a, House of the Fish Spotter, is a modern beach vacation home that takes its cues in traditional Hawaiian architecture. The house is composed of two individual structures, one with a butterfly roof and the other a shed roof, designed to harness the sun, trade winds and maximize the connection to the outdoor areas.  The consistent use of simple materials throughout the home, such as board-and-batten siding, polished concrete floors and large white interior volumes, unifies the design and lends to a clear overall experience. With high sloping ceilings and large openings that blend the interior and exterior, Hale KiloI’a is a unique and dynamic architectural space, that captures the essence of living in Hawaii.

Bold colors, patterns and forms, in the architecture and furniture, create a unique series of spaces, that are both inviting and warm.  By separating the house into two smaller houses, each with a covered lanai but no covered connection, the house becomes a playful assemblage of indoor and outdoor spaces that have an expansive feel.  Other notable features of this house include ply-bamboo cabinets, one piece tempered glass kitchen backsplash, colorful glass tiles in the bathrooms and metal roofing.
